Garrett Paving Company was recognized Monday, July 13, 2015 at a ceremony recognizing the Operational Excellence Award recipients during the NAPA Midyear Meeting in Denver.

“Through the creation of five Operational Excellence Award categories: Asphalt Operations Safety Innovation, Community Involvement, Ecological, Outstanding Brochure, and Outstanding Website; the Awards Committee established a blueprint for excellence — detailing the aspects that make for successful businesses,” stated Jim Mitchell, Chairman of the Awards Committee.

While Garrett Paving Co. employees were out and about in their day-to-day paving jobs they often noticed phone books lying on the ground, never picked up by their owners. “People wouldn’t even throw them away, that’s how much interest they had in them,” said Rick Garrett, President and Owner of Garrett Paving Co. “We realized phone book ads weren’t going to get the job done for us anymore.”

This observation led to a business model change for Garrett Paving, a full-service pavement and asphalt paving maintenance contractor. The company initiated a website, GarrettPavingCompany.com, makeover that debuted last summer. The fully responsive and mobile-friendly website was designed by Beth Hall Thrasher of Thrasher Photo + Design, in Athens, GA. The site keeps simplicity in mind and the realization that the end user doesn’t want to peruse through too much clutter to find the needed information.

“A website is just like insurance or a telephone,” Garrett said. “It’s part of what it takes to be a legitimate business today.”

Garrett said the website was professionally designed by Beth Hall Thrasher, something he recommends to help increase traffic to a site, which hopefully will lead to an increase in customers.

The site was designed to be mobile phone-friendly and contains a Facebook interface for easy access to social media. It offers Garrett Paving a venue to feature its current projects and employees to clientele, which includes local corporate and government agencies, as well as residential and property management projects.

“We take a lot of pride in our work and in our people,” Garrett said. “The website is a way we can get it out in front of people, showcase it a little bit, and let people know what we’ve got going on.” Garrett believes the mindset in hiring a paving contractor has changed over the years, which also helped spur the website update. He said many clients today try to find out about a company before ever making initial contact.

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) is the only trade association that exclusively represents the interests of the asphalt producer/contractor on the national level with Congress, government agencies, and other national trade and business organizations. NAPA supports an active research program designed to improve the quality of asphalt pavements and paving techniques used in the construction of roads, streets, highways, parking lots, airports, and environmental and recreational facilities. The association provides technical, educational, and marketing materials and information to its members; supplies product information to users and specifiers of paving materials; and conducts training courses. The association, which counts more than 1,100 companies as members, was founded in 1955.

The new GarrettPavingCompany.com website, designed by Beth Hall Thrasher of Thrasher Photo and Design, is fully responsive and mobile friendly, meeting Google’s stringent mobile-friendly tests. The all-custom website allows Garrett’s site the ease-of-use of the WordPress interface, with a custom back end, which means no third party plugins– assuring the cleanest of code and the utmost in security.
